Vision held its monthly meeting at the Gardiner Farm on the Wednesday the 12th

Vision held its monthly meeting at the Gardiner Farm on the Wednesday the 12th. Prior to our 7:00PM meeting, Vision in cooperation with CitiBank held a Harborfields Vision networking meeting at CitiBank starting at 5:30. Vision is intent on helping our local merchants and business owners.  At the 7:00 meeting a number of steps were discussed to encourage Harborfields residents to shop locally for the holidays.

Vision members also discussed activities they can take to support the American Cancer Societies May Relay for Life We are in the process of updating an inventory of Harborfields so that the various organizations in Harborfields can be contacted regarding the Relay for Life. We want to make the Relay for Life a total Harborfields effort.

There was also a continued discussion of the plight of the needy in Harborfields. We have gotten reports from various organizations that the requests for food are increasing while at the same time supplies are decreasing. There are a number of organizations and churches in Harborfields that have over the years worked tirelessly to feed the hungry and also to address other concerns of the poor. But the current economic conditions suggest that the need in the next few years may significantly increase. If you have information about what you organization is doing-or about what the current need is or projected to be- please contact us at hyneh@aol.com.

Relay for Life -Harbofields Library- 7:00 11/12/2008

American Cancer Society Relay for Life is having its organization meeting this Thursday at the Harborfields Library at 7:00. Last year our community raised over $45,000 for cancer. We know that this year is a difficult time for many families. It is always hard to ask people to give of their time and money. But I seldom talk to any family that has not been touched by some form of cancer. We have some great activities being planned. One that I like-the towns (Greenlawn and Centerport)are going purple!! Give a call if I can give you details. Ruth Ann Hyne 261-5877

Baby Steps

VISION-along with some other Harborfields organizations- is taking some small but important  steps. At the Pickle Festival  three business from Greenlawn had booths to promote their business. VISION has met with the Relay for Life Cancer director to help set up the May event. We have also met with a director of the Harry Chapin food progam to set up a storage and delivery service in Harborfields. Another exciting concept is being  explored. Kayacs for Kids Kicking Cancer is in its initial stage of planing'. The concept is simple. When various groups and organizations work together each benefits-sometimes in ways that could not have been predicted. In the current economic situation our core mission  "Bringing Our Community Together" is more important than ever.

Harborfields Community Night @ Shea

This is to inform the Harborfields Community of an exciting opportunity to support our Harborfields Marching Band, Kickline, and Concert Choir!  The Marching Band, Kickline, and Choir will be performing before the Mets take on the Chicago Cubs in one of the last games ever to be played at the original Shea Stadium on Tuesday, September 23rd at 6:30 pm!

Here is the online ticket ordering information.  Please feel free to forward this information to family, friends, and anyone you think might be interested in attending this game.  We have a group ticket window at www.mets.com/groups The sign in ID is HARBORFIELDS (in all caps) and the password is METS (in all caps).  There are 2 areas of tickets that are reserved, Mezzanine Reserved ($27) and Upper Reserved ($10).  The student performers will be sitting in the Mezzanine Reserved section, but you can choose to sit in either location.

Student performers have a separate ticket order form, so please do not include them in your online order.
We are looking forward to a terrific turnout at what should be a very exciting performance!  I’m sure tickets will go fast because this is the last week of regular season play at Shea Stadium, so order your tickets soon!
Hope to see you at the game!

Band Director
